POSITION: Manager of Development & Hockey Operations
REPORTS TO: Executive Director
SUPERVISES: N/A
POSITION TYPE: Full Time; Year Round
PURPOSE: The Manager of Development & Hockey Operations is responsible for planning and implementation of activities related to all league operations as well as the development and betterment of programs that benefit the SMHA membership.
STARTING SALARY RANGE: $60,000 - $75,000 dependent on experience / ability
JOB DESCRIPTION
Operations:
- Provide guidance / support to SMHA zones as it relates to areas of responsibility (Player/Coach registration and development, regulations, compliancy, tryouts, team formation, etc.)
- Application and interpretation of SMHA regulations.
- Coordinate annual review of SMHA Regulations and SMHA programs and make recommendation to Executive Director to bring forward to the Board of Directors.
- Develop seasonal plan of all operational activities.
- Work with SMHA Referee-in-Chief on development, mentorship and supervision programs for the betterment of officiating within SMHA and interlock communities.
- Coordinate with Age Division Chairpersons to ensure that pre-season program meetings occur and that Chairpersons are kept aware of happenings within their respective leagues.
- Assist other SMHA staff where required in operational areas such as scheduling, referee assigning and HCR team registration,
- Oversee day to day league operations in terms of roster checking, affiliation policy adherence and discipline/suspensions.
Player, Goaltender & Officials Development:
- Create a seasonal plan of all Player / Goaltender Development programming.
- Oversee the delivery of key development programs such as: U7 Cross Ice Jamboree, Timbits Day at SaskTel Centre, Goalie Development programming, Try Goalie Days, First Shift program, etc.
- Recruit, train and support coaching staff volunteers for the First Shift program and any other programming requiring on-ice coaches.
- Work with Hockey Sask Player Development staff to set up Hockey Sask development opportunities within SMHA such as PD Development Days.
- Support zones with their development programming to ensure duplication does not occur.
- Work with Hockey Sask staff and the SMHA Referee-in-Chief to arrange and book referee clinics, referee training days and any referee special events.
Coach Development:
- Create a seasonal plan of all Coach Development programming.
- Provide leadership and direction to SMHA zones in terms of coach recruitment, coach selection and coach retention.
- Work with SMHA Lead Coach Mentor on an annual plan for the Coach Mentorship program.
- Assist with Coach Mentor recruitment.
- Work with Hockey Sask Coaching Development staff to ensure SMHA-hosted coaching clinics are set up to the best interests of SMHA.
- Provide support to SMHA zones to ensure that zones are compliant with key coaching requirements and deadlines around certification and criminal record checks.
Other Related Duties:
- Attendance at SMHA Board and Annual meetings where required, pre-season Age Group meetings and any other meetings that may require information or support.
- Providing social media updates on behalf of SMHA (X, Instagram, Facebook)
- Provide support and attend where necessary SMHA events as required by the Executive Director.
- Assume the duties of the Executive Director if required.
- Other duties as requested by the Executive Director
Qualifications:
- Able to present themselves professionally and communicate appropriately.
- Be a self-starter with strong organizational skills and able to manage multiple tasks with tight deadlines in some instances.
- Ability to manage conflict.
- Possess a business background or knowledge of sports administration including budgeting.
- Experience developing hockey programming.
- Experience as a hockey coach will be considered an asset.
- Ability and experience working with volunteers with an ability to create and maintain successful relationships.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently while managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required.
- Have a strong proficiency with Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.
- Experience with maintaining and keeping web sites current and accurate.
- Experience working with various social media apps (X, Instagram, Facebook, etc.)
- Comply with requirement to supply a Criminal Record Check and confirm that no conflicts of interest exist.
